How school zoning works on Staten Island

There is one thing worth knowing before anything else: on Staten Island your school is decided by your address, not by your neighbourhood. Two houses on the same street can sit in different zones.

The whole borough is Community School District 31. It is the only school district on Staten Island, so a change of neighbourhood does not mean a change of district. What changes is the zone underneath it.

Zones change, so check the address and not the area

The Department of Education updates its zoning list every July. A zone that held last year may not hold next year, which is the practical reason we will not tell you what a given address feeds into. By the time you read it, it could be wrong.

If schools matter to your search, look up the specific address before you make an offer, not the neighbourhood, and not a house two blocks away.
